The Tulane GeoSentinel site is located in New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA), in the southern Gulf Coast region of the US. This region is known for some of the worst pre-COVID health outcomes in the US, where a growing healthcare workforce is trying to understand and improve the factors driving these poor outcomes. The mosquito population in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast is capable of harboring, and transmitting, pathogens such as dengue and Zika, so major local efforts focus on regular surveillance of this dynamic insect population.
