Mission Statement

GeoSentinel is a global sentinel surveillance network dedicated to the detection, analysis, and communication of infectious diseases affecting international travelers and mobile populations. Through a network of specialized clinical and research sites worldwide, GeoSentinel contributes to the understanding of the epidemiology and impact of infectious diseases in travelers crossing borders to support public health response, clinical practice, and global health policy.

Objectives

1. Strengthen GeoSentinel’s capacity for early detection and reporting of emerging infectious disease threats affecting travelers and mobile populations

2. Expand enhanced surveillance and longitudinal data collection to improve understanding of travel-related disease trends and outcomes

3. Develop and integrate biobanking infrastructure and pathogen genomic epidemiology into surveillance activities to support outbreak investigation and research

4. Prioritize GeoSentinel’s core sentinel surveillance mission in project development

5. Ensure core data elements remain relevant, actionable, and aligned with public health and clinical decision-making needs

6. Implement an evidence-based strategy to optimize geographic and epidemiologic coverage by strategic site inclusion
