Yellow fever in Brazil

We would like to alert you to the Yellow Fever situation in Brazil since the start of 2017. On January 6th, 2017 the Brazil International Health Regulations (IHR) National Focal Point (NFP) notified PAHO/WHO of the occurrence of 23 suspected and probable cases of yellow fever including 14 deaths from the municipalities of the state Minas Gerais. Brazil confirmed 6 human cases of yellow fever in 2016, including one case imported from Angola. The number of epizootics, especially in the state of Sao Paulo (163 epizootics in non-human primates NHP), increased considerably in 2016. Intending travelers should be informed regarding mosquito bite protection and vaccinated if visiting areas of virus circulation and according to the current yellow fever vaccination guidelines.
