Rise in chikungunya ex India (specifically Dehli)

Site: Mount Auburn Hospital

We have just received two reports of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection ex India from Mount Auburn Site Director, Lin Chen. Both cases was likely exposed in Dehli and the patient describes large numbers of cases being diagnosed there. A database search shows a surge in imported cases in 2016, not necessarily just from India. Please be alert to increased CHIKV in returning travelers from India and other destinations. Daytime mosquito bite precautions (repellents and impregnated clothing) should be recommended for all intending travelers to areas with arboviral infection transmission.
