Cases of Dengue Fever in Travelers who had recently been in Delhi, India

Site: Sheba Medical Center

Eli Schwartz (ISR) notified us today that his site has seen 11 cases of dengue fever in travelers who had recently been in Delhi, India. We have 8 other reports of dengue cases from India in the last two months. Since this time of year is high risk for dengue transmission due to the heat and humidity from the monsoons, it looks like there has been an increase in dengue transmission relative to 2014. This is highlighted in the local press in India (http://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/dengue-cases-double-in-2015). Besides enhanced awareness of the potential for travelers returning from India to have dengue, for those of you providing pre-travel education, please continue to remind your travelers of the need for anti-vector measures. We also would greatly appreciate it if you could try to enter specific locations visited within India, when you file your surveillance reports. We realize that this may be difficult for backpackers and other travelers who have visited many locations.
