Borrelia recurrentis

Borrelia recurrentis

Site: Institute of Tropical Medicine

Emmanuel Bottieau from the Antwerp site has just diagnosed (confirmed by species PCR) a case of Borrelia recurrentis in a Somalian migrant. Some cases (Eurosurv and ProMed) have been reported in other European countries overwhelmed by the current migration flow. Louse borne relapsing fever epidemics occur in times of war and refugee and population migration. Please be alert and let us know if any such cases present.
