Frank von Sonnenburg from the Münich site has reported a case of Plasmodium falciparum imported from the Dominican Republic. In addition, he reports reliable hearsay of a further two cases (one in Munich and one in Frankfurt) with exposure in the Dominican Republic. A search of the GeoSentinel® database does not show any heightened activity. There are 3 malaria cases ex Dominican Republic so far in 2016 (2Pf, 1Pv). Often, however, the grapevine can be useful to signal an outbreak. Please be alert to malaria ex Dominican Republic and let us know if you see or have recently seen any cases. If so, it would be helpful to document where in the DR they had stayed, if possible.
